HYDRO-POWER GENERATION SCHEME APPROVED AT COMMITTEE
Archimedes Screw system for renewable power generation on bank of the Thames at Egham receives approval following detailed analysis of impacts.
The application submitted by South East Power Engineering Ltd and The Runnymede-on–Thames hotel, proposes to generate electricity from a renewable source and it is estimated the scheme would provide up to a third of the electricity supply requirements for the Runnymede Hotel’s business use.
Issues including flooding implications, fish migration, visual impact and green belt restrictions have resulted in submission of an alternative design, replacing a previously approved scheme proposed for construction on the opposite bank of the Thames. The reconfigured design, following Environment Agency consultation, reduces the various potential impacts during both construction and operation.
Detailed engineering and technical specification required for planning consideration demanded a set of photo-real verified views derived from a complex enginneering model. Local concerns over visual impact in various operational states relative to water levels and potential flood conditions meant we were required to produce multiple images for each viewpoint.
Planning approval was received at committee on April 6th 2016.
